Mississippi Catfish is an American restaurant tucked into a lively sports bar setting on Valley View Road in El Sobrante. Known locally for its solid Southern-style fried seafood, it offers a cozy spot where the comfort of rich, seasoned dishes meets the casual buzz of a neighborhood gathering place.

The move from Richmond to this location has brought a notable shift. With more indoor seating than before and the addition of a full bar, it feels less like a traditional fish joint and more like a relaxed hangout where you can enjoy a meal alongside a game or a cold drink. This makes it a good choice both for families looking for hearty portions and for groups of friends seeking a no-fuss dinner spot with some lively background energy.

Portion sizes here lean hefty, making it a place to try when you're genuinely hungry. The fried catfish and snapper stand out for their well-balanced seasoning and crispy textures, and the hush puppies carry that satisfying crunch that complements the fried seafood well. From what locals share, the food maintains a consistent flavor reminiscent of classic Southern fish fries, which brings a sense of something familiar and straightforward to the table.

Family-friendly is not just a claim but part of the atmosphere—little ones have been spotted enjoying bites alongside adults, adding a warm, community-oriented feel. The staff, including the longtime owners, engage genuinely, making conversations that go beyond just the menu and helping guests feel seen in a place that's easy to return to.

This spot suits anyone looking for a casual dinner that pairs well with a lively bar environment—especially on evenings when catching a game or sharing plates with friends and family is the plan. Weekdays and weekend nights often deliver a steady flow of regulars, adding to the sense of a well-loved local spot that balances tradition with a new venue energy.

This is the original place that has been at Richmond for 20 years. The building was sold so they have now moved to this sports bar. The food is still the same great flavor, just perfect in every way. There are a lot more indoor seating as well and you have more drinks option as it is in a bar.

Good Food. Good People. They are a pop up at 7 Peaks Restaurant.

Once I found this gem, I referred all my family. The food is seasoned to perfection and the portions are plentiful. My 16 month old wanted to taste my food and really enjoyed the snapper.

Fried Catfish and shrimp…spot on! Reminds me of our family’s Friday Fish Fry’s! Mr. Thomas and his son are great. They make sure you have everything you need and take time for real conversation. I recommend Mississippi Catfish to all my family and friends.
